This is the first N. Hawk Owl that I have seen and photographed. Unfortunately it was sitting on a power line, which doesn’t make for a great photograph. Hopefully I will be able to find it again over the weekend, on a more natural perch.
The past two weekends I have been out photographing owls. The first trip was to Presqu’ile Park where I found three Barred owls (Strix varia). This weekend I made a trip with a friend to Amherst Island and saw four species of owls; Barred Owl (Strix varia), Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus), Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) and Snowy Owls (Bubo scandiacus). Unfortunately the Snowy Owls where too far away to get photos of, but I did get a good look at them through a birders spotting scope.
